Nancy Nord Becomes Acting Chairman Of CPSC

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Effective today, Nancy Nord assumes the position of Acting Chairman of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

Ms. Nord was appointed by President George W. Bush to be a Commissioner at CPSC and was sworn into office on May 5, 2005. Her term as Commissioner expires in October 2012.

Before coming to the CPSC, Ms. Nord held a number of legal positions both in the federal government and the private sector. A native of South Dakota, she holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska and a law degree from the George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

Ms. Nord stated, “I look forward to continuing my open door policy by hearing from and working with all of our agency stakeholders in order to effectively and efficiently carry out the important work of the Commission.”

Definition:
The party to whom the item is leased. In a consumer lease, the lessee is you, the consumer. The lessee is required to make payments and to meet other obligations specified in the lease agreement.

Definition:
Small claims courts resolve disputes involving claims for small amounts of money. While the maximum amounts that can be claimed or awarded differ from state to state, court procedures generally are simple, inexpensive, quick and informal.
